The signature red varietal of Argentina, Malbec excels in the warm, dry climate, producing exceptional wines with dark, spicy aromas and succulent texture. This Colomé Malbec is produced mainly from pre-phylloxera vines planted in 1854. Bodega Colomé vineyards are bio-dynamically and sustainably farmed at an altitude of 5,500 to 8,500 feet and are believed to be the highest vineyards in the world. The sandy and alluvial soils yield small crops and produce deeply colored and concentrated wines which capture the essence of this distinct terroir. Our Malbec Estate Wine represents the unique character of cooler climate Argentine Malbec, the country’s signature red grape. Grown in the northern province of Salta at high elevations, the grapes and wines express bright fruit profiles, while retaining acid and tannin for structure, a combination rare in Argentina. Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, and Syrah are blended for complexity, structure, and a rich, supple mouthfeel to produce a truly remarkable wine. WINEMAKING Grapes were hand harvested in 25 lb boxes, delivered to the winery, then hand- sorted twice, once for grape imperfections and then for green material in the must. Fermentation was slow due to the altitude (lower oxygen), and there was extended maceration, totaling 25 – 30 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred 50% in barrels and 50% in tank. WINEMAKER COMMENT S The color is deep magenta with a purple hue. This wine is sophisticated on the nose with violets, black fruits, clove, and black pepper followed by flavors of elderberries, nutmeg and cassis. It is a full bodied and rich wine with thick, mouth coating texture. Subtle French oak and toast flavors are well balanced providing vanilla and toasted bread flavors. The wine is long, rich, fat and round on the finish. It pairs well with steak, cassoulet, duck, venison and other hearty fare. Randle Johnson, Director of Winemaking.

The yields are no more than 8 tons/ha and vines are planted under VSP (Vertical Shooting Position). 50% of the wine did the malolactic fermentation in French barrels while 80% of the wines has been aged for 12 months in French Barrels both new but mainly second use.
